While only a handful of organizations work to conserve nature, some, like Natural England, receive government support, demonstrating their commitment to environmental goals. Environmentalists express growing concern over the diminishing greenery essential for our survival. Recognizing this urgency, governments worldwide are beginning to take action.
Recently, the UK government introduced the Environmental Stewardship scheme, accepting applications since January 1, 2007. This program is open to all farmers and land managers, with 25,000 Entry Level Stewards (ELS) managing nearly 3.5 million hectares. Additionally, the Higher Level Scheme (HLS) targets top-tier applicants. Natural England has approved about 1,000 HLS applications, covering 65,000 hectares, under the new Rural Development Programme.
