Constantly Tired? Your Mattress Might Be the Culprit
Summary:
A good night's sleep is essential for a healthy, energetic lifestyle. If you're not resting well, it might be time to rethink your mattress choice. The right mattress can make all the difference between a refreshing night’s sleep and a restless one.Article:
Quality sleep is crucial for maintaining a vibrant and healthy lifestyle. When you lack sufficient rest, it becomes evident in your daily performance. The mattress you choose plays a significant role in ensuring restful nights.Experts have long emphasized the importance of selecting a high-quality innerspring mattress while advising against trendy options like air and water mattresses. Another critical factor in sleep quality is the size of your mattress.
"Research into sleep habits reveals that a healthy sleeper makes 40 to 60 moves a night, including about a dozen full-body turns," explained Arthur Grehan, Executive Director of the American Innerspring Manufacturers, based in Memphis, Tennessee.
This movement can be quite noticeable on a standard 38-inch twin bed for one person, or a 53-inch double bed for couples, Grehan noted.
So, how do you choose the right mattress? The AIM suggests the following guidelines:
- Teenagers: Upgrade to a double-size innerspring mattress to ensure optimal rest once your child reaches their teenage years.
- Single Adults: A sleep space of at least 40 inches wide is ideal. A double bed is recommended for comfort.
- Couples: For optimal comfort, each adult should have at least 30 inches of space. This typically means a queen bed for average-sized adults or a king bed for those above average in size.
"We continue to learn about the vital role of sleep in daily health and performance," Grehan stated. "It's imperative that people take this information seriously."
