Bar blades and crown cork removers handle capped bottles, though they can't open corked ones. They consist of just the end piece of a corkscrew, designed for quick bottle opening. Smaller, portable, and cost-effective, these openers are often attached to tables or walls for convenience and can even be found on belts.
Despite their affordability, it's surprisingly easy to find yourself without a bottle opener. In such cases, a knife (using the blunt side) or a screwdriver can be handy alternatives. Interestingly, the original 1891 patent for the bottle cap by William Painter recommended using a sharp object to remove caps. He invented the bottle opener two years later. Remember, using your teeth is a risky idea!
Today, screw caps are gradually replacing bottle caps, leading to a decline in the use of traditional openers. In the future, it seems that only wine and beer may require them, as more drinks transition to screw caps for ease of use.
