For me, my roots are tied to my ancestry. My journey here is shaped by my great-grandmother, who endured days at sea in a rickety boat, leaving her beloved community to seek new fortunes in the United States. She arrived through Ellis Island and moved north, entering an arranged marriage at 15. For the rest of her life, she raised 12 children while my great-grandfather labored in a factory. Her happiness remains a mystery due to language barriers, but she lived to be 99.
From her story, I gather that we all have a responsibility to seize our opportunities. Today, the world is open to us, inviting us to express and explore our talents. We are limited only by our imagination. So, wherever you are, remember my mom’s words: "When your roots are firmly planted, your branches grow closer to heaven."
