Solitaire Klondike: A Guide to Playing
Summary:
Looking for a fresh twist on solitaire? Discover Klondike, a popular and historical variant dating back to the Californian Gold Rush. Relaxing and fun, Klondike offers a new challenge for card game enthusiasts.
How to Play Klondike Solitaire
Klondike Solitaire has gained popularity beyond traditional solitaire games, especially with the rise of computers in every home and office. While it may seem modern, Klondike has roots in the late 19th century, played by miners in the Alaskan and Californian mountains.
Setting Up the Game
Klondike is easy to pick up but challenging enough to keep it interesting. Here's how to set the game up:
1. Place one card face up on the table.
2. Add six cards face down to its left.
3. Place another card face up to the left of the first card, followed by a face-down card on the remaining piles.
4. Continue this pattern, placing one face-up card and adding a face-down card to each pile.
By the end, your table should have seven columns, with the number of cards in each column increasing from one to seven. Keep 24 cards in your hand for gameplay.
Objective and Gameplay
Your goal is to move all cards to four foundation piles, beginning with an ace and stacking cards in ascending order and matching suits (e.g., ace to king of hearts).
- As you reveal aces, move them to their foundations and build up each suit.
- On the tableau, you can build sequences down in alternating colors. For example, under a six of clubs, you can place a five of hearts or diamonds.
Uncovering Cards and Moving Sequences
Once you've used a face-up card, reveal the face-down card beneath it. If a tableau pile is emptied, you can start a new sequence with a king.
You can also move sequences of cards between columns, as long as you follow the alternating color rule.
Using the Draw Pile
Use your draw pile by revealing the top three cards and making only the top card available for play. After using the top card, the next one becomes available. Once you've cycled through the draw pile, gather and start again.
Klondike Solitaire is not just a game of chance; strategic thinking enhances the experience. With practice, you'll find yourself hooked on this timeless classic. Enjoy the challenge and relaxation it offers!
