In today's world, steroids seem to be everywhere?"on the news, in sports, at schools, and even on the streets. It’s astonishing how little people know about building muscle despite thinking otherwise. While many might be fed up with the conversation, I, as a bodybuilder, am glad it’s happening. It’s time we address the misconceptions about this sport that I love, to help it become a respected and legitimate pursuit.

Building muscle is complex and often misunderstood. There are both good and bad reasons for engaging in it. Human strength and a well-sculpted body are remarkable, but only when achieved through dedication and in a healthy manner. While pushing athletic limits is admirable and motivating, the problem arises when sports become more about business than personal development. When money becomes the driving force, ethical boundaries often blur.

It’s astonishing what some will do for power, whether for prestige, wealth, fame, or visibility. Unfortunately, this often leads to harm and diminishes the integrity of the sport. Is it truly enjoyable to outperform everyone else if it requires cheating? Aren’t the most rewarding achievements those that require hard work? Since when did risking one’s health become worth temporary recognition? Not everyone who builds muscle is vain, and it’s important to recognize that.

Why do I dedicate time to building muscle? Primarily because, when done correctly, it’s healthy. It helps prevent injuries, boosts metabolism, strengthens bones, protects joints, and enhances balance and control. Moreover, it allows you to enjoy activities longer and contributes positively to mental health. It fosters a sense of accomplishment, improves mood, boosts confidence, and provides a natural high similar to a runner's endorphin release.

Engaging in sports and getting stronger for the right reasons is invaluable. Do it the right way, and you’ll avoid being an object of scorn or ending up in a hospital bed. Prioritize health, authenticity, and the true spirit of athleticism for a fulfilling journey in muscle building.
