Bipolar Disorder: Understanding and Recognizing the Symptoms
Overview
Bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression, is a chronic mental health condition marked by extreme mood swings, including emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). My name is Ric, and I've lived with bipolar disorder for eight years. Through my personal journey, I'm sharing insights and experiences that I've encountered. I'm also working on a book about my journey, soon to be available on a new website.
What is Bipolar Disorder?
Bipolar disorder impacts not only your mood but also your behavior, thoughts, sleep, and emotions. Without proper treatment, those affected can find themselves on a destructive path, with a high risk of suicide. It’s often categorized as a mental illness, though its roots may lie in brain chemistry and function, making it as much a physical condition as it is mental.
