Partnership for Food Safety Education Launches Revamped Consumer Education Website
The Partnership for Food Safety Education has unveiled a newly upgraded website under the popular Fight BAC! campaign, designed to better serve educators and consumers seeking to minimize the risk of foodborne illnesses.
Executive Director Shelley Feist highlights the significance of the website, www.fightbac.org, noting its extensive use by consumers, educators, dietitians, and public health officials nationwide. "With two-thirds of adults relying on the Internet for safe food handling information, our goal is to make these resources fully accessible," Feist explains.
Though recent reductions have been observed in outbreaks of certain bacterial foodborne diseases, millions still suffer from foodborne illnesses each year. Education on safe food handling remains crucial in reducing these numbers. The Partnership's national consumer study indicates progress in increasing awareness, but more work is needed.
Tim Hammonds, Chairman of the Partnership, states, "Our research shows a clear link between awareness of food safety guidelines and proper food handling. Enhancing our online resources aims to boost this awareness, ultimately lowering foodborne illness risks across the nation."
The revamped website is more user-friendly and fully searchable, offering quick access to essential safe food handling tips, with updated fact sheets and downloadable materials for both consumers and educators.
The Fight BAC! campaign educates the public on four key food safety practices to decrease illness risk: Clean, Separate, Cook, and Chill. BAC!, the campaign's "bacteria mascot," symbolizes the unseen threat of contamination, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in food safety.
