Whenever I visit Khon Kaen, Thailand, one of my top priorities is enjoying the local cuisine.
A Memorable Dining Experience:
During my current stay in Khon Kaen, I had the pleasure of revisiting one of my favorite spots, Bontonmairimnam Restaurant. When my girlfriend suggested we take her mother out for lunch, the decision was easy.
Located just outside the city, this charming restaurant sits beside a river, offering a serene and cool atmosphere with individual gazebo-like dining areas. A gentle breeze often drifts through the air, enhancing the tranquil setting.
Menu and Orders:
The restaurant's menu, conveniently available in both Thai and English, is a rarity in this region. After careful consideration, we placed our orders with the attentive staff, starting with a couple of cokes, some water, and a cold beer.
In no time, our feast began to arrive. Spicy papaya salad, boiled eggs, oyster salad, squid, vegetables, and steamed rice were served. Shortly after, my fried shrimp, onion rings, and spring rolls made their appearance. The food was designed for sharing, which added to the fun of the meal.
Atmosphere and Enjoyment:
As we indulged in a variety of flavors, the conversation flowed as effortlessly as the river behind us. Periodically, I ordered another cold beer, promptly served by our attentive waitress.
Although there were tempting dessert options, we were too full to consider them. From fresh vegetables to delicious seafood, everything was perfectly prepared.
Final Thoughts:
When it came time to settle the bill, the total was a modest 860 Baht (about 27 USD) for eight dishes, two large beers, two cokes, and a bottle of water. Including a 40 Baht tip, our entire delightful dining experience stayed under 30 dollars.
This memorable meal exemplifies why I hold Thailand dear to my heart.
