PEI AS A PLACE TO LIVE

PEI: A Unique Place to Call Home
When people find out I'm not originally from PEI, they often ask, "What made you move here?" Many assume it's family or friends that drew me in?"surprisingly, that's not the case. Others speculate I might have visited before and fallen in love with it. In truth, my move was driven by pure curiosity. Having traveled all over Canada, PEI was the one place I hadn't explored. A news report highlighting its lifestyle caught my attention, piquing my interest in this unique island.
My friends from Ontario sometimes joke that we "Islanders" live about 30 years behind the times, and there’s a bit of truth to that. But that simplicity is where PEI's charm lies. We still prioritize family and friends, our churches remain vibrant, and crime rates are low. Islanders cherish the breathtaking natural beauty and are passionate about preserving it.
There are misconceptions about us, though. Contrary to popular belief, we are not all reliant on unemployment benefits. In fact, some of the most hardworking and dedicated individuals I've met live here. For many, work is not just about income, but a chance to be creative, productive, and social. While it’s important, work isn’t our whole life; it supports a balanced and fulfilling existence.
Another myth is about the size of the island. It's not as small as some might think. Walking its length would surpass the distance between Ottawa and Montreal, and its width is comparable to the stretch from Ottawa to Kingston?"so a vehicle is definitely recommended!
In today’s world, Islanders are exposed to the same global culture as everyone else. Our kids embrace modern fashion trends, and we have access to the same news, movies, and internet as anywhere else. These influences are shaping our way of life, but we skillfully blend the new with the old. This balance makes PEI a truly special place to live and work.
