I’ve often heard remarks like, "Since I’m paying for my car installment monthly, why not upgrade to a better one?" It seems paying the car installment has become routine, to the point where not doing so feels unusual. Some may have forgotten that it's possible to live without these payments.
My intention is not to offend those who choose to buy new cars. Rather, I encourage thoughtful consideration before making such a purchase. Ask yourself: Is it necessary? Do you genuinely need the new car, or is it just about displaying wealth or boosting your ego?
Personally, I buy a car only out of necessity. If my home lacks public transportation access, or if my current vehicle has serious issues, then I consider a purchase. My current car is over five years old and still in excellent condition. I plan to use it for at least ten years, as long as it remains reliable.
My wife uses our car daily, while I rely on public transport. Financially, I could afford a second car, but I choose not to, saving at least RM1000 monthly. I'd prefer to allocate this money towards paying off our house loan more quickly or investing it, enhancing our financial stability.
Why increase expenses for something unnecessary? Using the extra funds for investment or reducing other debts can lead to a healthier financial future.
