When To Buy And Sell
Below is a MRR and PLR article in category Finance -> subcategory Investing.

When to Buy and Sell Stocks
Overview
The process of buying and selling stocks is straightforward, almost as simple as clicking a button on your computer. However, deciding when to buy and sell requires more in-depth analysis.
When to Sell
Ideally, you should sell a stock when it reaches its fair value. Although there are other reasons to sell, this article focuses on fair value. A stock's fair value is generally reached when its yield is 3% above the current risk-free interest rate, often represented by the 10-year Treasury bond. With the bond currently yielding 4.46%, a stock is at fair value when its yield is 7.46%. This corresponds to a Price Earnings (P/E) ratio of 13.4.
When to Buy
Buying decisions are slightly easier. You should aim to purchase stocks at a P/E ratio lower than your selling point of 13.4, depending on your desired return. For example, to achieve a 50% return, you might buy at a P/E of 8.93. For a 34% return, aim for a P/E of 10.
In essence, you should aim to buy at a P/E of 8.93 and sell at 13.4. However, be aware of several considerations, such as the implications and accuracy of the P/E ratio. This guidance doesn’t factor in trailing P/E, cash on the balance sheet, one-time events, or changes in interest rates. Additionally, it assumes 0% growth in earnings for simplicity.
Stock Examples
You may wonder where to find stocks trading with these P/E ratios. Here are a few examples:
- Seagate Technology (STX): Forward P/E of 7.5, with $2.30 per share of net cash.
- Western Digital Corporation (WDC): Forward P/E of 9.75, with $2.65 per share of net cash.
- OmniVision Technologies Inc. (OVTI): Forward P/E of 10.3, with $5.30 per share of net cash.
- Magna International (MGA): Forward P/E of 9.72, with $4.58 per share of net cash.
Important Note
This is not a recommendation to buy or sell. It’s crucial to conduct your own research before making investment decisions.
