The Devil Made Me Do It
Taking Responsibility for Your Financial Choices
In today's society, there's a concerning trend of shifting blame for our mistakes onto others. Whether it's rebuilding homes after predictable disasters or suing companies for personal choices, accountability often seems overlooked.
Consider the financial sector, where borrowers sometimes blame lenders for their debts. Credit card offers flood college students and tempting financial products come unsolicited in the mail, but ultimately, it's our choice to accept or use these offers.
Life presents many temptations?"high-fat foods, tobacco, gambling, and yes, easy credit. While information abounds about the pitfalls of these temptations, it’s essential to take personal responsibility for our actions.
Misfortunes like illnesses or layoffs can happen to anyone, but we must prepare for such possibilities. Too often, people let life lead them without planning for the future, and when financial disaster strikes, they blame external factors.
No one forces us to cut up our credit cards or manage our spending. Nobody compels us to work harder or seek further education for a better income. Being an adult means taking responsibility for our actions. Suing credit card companies for extending credit might seem like an option, but it doesn’t solve the root problem of personal accountability.
Interestingly, nearly half of Americans don’t own a credit card and manage just fine. Instead of pointing fingers, why not follow their lead, live within your means, and enjoy a more stress-free life? It’s challenging, but entirely achievable.
