Giorgio Armani, born on July 11, 1934, in a small Italian town, has become an iconic symbol and ambassador of Italian fashion around the world.
Famous for his stylish suits worn by Hollywood actors like Mel Gibson and Richard Gere, Armani never initially intended to pursue a career in fashion. He enrolled in college to study medicine but soon realized the medical field wasn't for him and switched to photography courses. However, in 1957, he had to pause his studies for mandatory military service.
After completing his service, Armani found work at La Rinascente, Italy’s leading department store at the time. In 1964, he began working for noted fashion designer Nino Cerruti. Encouraged by his friend Sergio Galeotti, Armani left Cerruti in 1970 to establish his own freelance design studio.
In 1974, with Galeotti's support, Armani launched his own company, Giorgio Armani S.p.A. His first men's collection was a major success, followed by an equally acclaimed women's collection a year later.
Since then, Armani has continually evolved the "Armani Look," recognized for its clean, tailored lines. To illustrate his success and popularity, one only needs to consider his ownership of homes in several exotic locations such as San Tropez, Forte dei Marmi, Broni, and Pantelleria.
