The Proof Was in the Pudding, or Was It the Cell Phone?
It was time for another visit to her mother-in-law, and Jenny was dreading it. She had often told her husband about her uncomfortable encounters with his mother, but he would just laugh it off, saying, "Now honey, Mom's not like that. She means well."
Desperate to prove her point, Jenny needed to show her husband how his mother behaved when they were alone. Every attempt to have him witness it in action had failed; her mother-in-law seemed to have a sixth sense and never got caught.
Determined, Jenny had a new plan. Before leaving the house, she grabbed her cell phone. This time, she aimed to capture the moment. Her husband noticed and asked, "Is that a new phone?" Jenny smiled, "Yes, the old one was acting up. This one has more features," she responded mysteriously.
Holding her phone all the way to the in-laws' house, they were greeted by the smiling couple. Her mother-in-law sweetly commented on Jenny’s appearance, then, turning to her son, fussed over how thin he looked while leading him to the kitchen.
After lunch, the men were sent outside, leaving Jenny and her mother-in-law to tidy up. Jenny strategically placed her phone on the counter, its camera subtly pointing their way.
Her mother-in-law noticed the phone and remarked, "I don’t get why you young ones always need those pesky things. I suppose in your case, it's to chat with all those men on the side!" Jenny, feeling hurt, replied, "Mom, I’m happily married."
"Not for long if I have anything to say about it. You’re not good enough for my son, and I plan to get rid of you," she muttered while wrapping the leftover pudding.
Just then, her husband walked back in, and his mother’s demeanor transformed as she greeted him warmly. Later, he suggested it was time to leave. Jenny agreed, picking up her phone with a knowing smile.
As they headed to the door, she paused and turned to her mother-in-law. "Thank you for the lovely lunch?"and our special little chat while wrapping up the pudding."
Her mother-in-law looked puzzled, but Jenny felt satisfied. With her new cell phone's spy cam, she'd finally captured the proof. This time, the evidence really was in the pudding.
