Although individual minutes are pricier ($0.25 for the first 10 minutes daily and $0.10 thereafter, with no roaming or time restrictions, and texts at $0.10 each), if you don’t use your phone much, you can save money. I typically spend just $10 a month, which is far less than what my friends pay.
Of course, prepaid phones come with some drawbacks. My friends with standard plans usually enjoy free nights and weekends, a perk I don’t have. My phone isn’t as advanced as the discounted or free models available with traditional plans, but it does have a full-color screen and internet access, so I’m satisfied overall. While I’m pleased with my prepaid phone, it might not be ideal for anyone who plans to talk extensively.
Before choosing a prepaid phone or signing a contract, assess your needs and expectations from a phone and service provider. This can help you save both money and avoid future hassles.
