As someone in the anti-spyware industry, I invest heavily in advertising to boost my website. But here I am, willingly handing over my personal details to strangers online and on calls. It's alarming!
Identity theft primarily occurs through poorly screened entry-level employees at contractor firms. Surprisingly, this is more common than hacks, phishing attempts, or dumpster diving. The perfect breeding ground for identity thieves is a poorly managed outsourced agency with inadequate screening processes.
Recently, many articles have stressed the need for stricter security guidelines and procedures for consumer protection. Envisioning the complexity of implementing universal rules is overwhelming!
Now, as I plan to advertise in a prestigious magazine available both in print and online, I’m faced with a dilemma. I have to share my name, address, phone number, and credit card details. What am I doing?
Fortunately, my understanding of these issues provides some reassurance. These companies wouldn’t thrive if they didn’t keep their customers satisfied. However, mistakes can still happen.
This is my dilemma. I’m knowledgeable about computer security and spyware, aware of both the vulnerabilities and strengths of online interactions. Trust is challenging when I understand the severe implications of identity misuse.
After years as a cautiously paranoid online user, I acknowledge that a little vulnerability is necessary for the success of my online business.
I empathize with those who contact me for help. Their frustration and helplessness are familiar to me. Yet, as always, common sense and my knowledge of spyware prevail, allowing me to take a deep breath and move forward.
