With the advent of computers in homes and offices, solitaire quickly became a beloved pastime. While its simplicity made it addictive, many sought new variations, and Klondike emerged as a favorite. Interestingly, Klondike isn't a new game. It originated in the late 1800s, with historians tracing its roots to miners in the Alaskan and Californian mountains who played to pass the time. How to Play Klondike
Klondike is easy to learn yet challenging enough to keep you hooked. Here's how to set up and play:1. Setting Up the Table
- Place one card face up in front of you.
- To its left, arrange six cards face down.
- Place another card face up next to the second card on the left.
- Continue this pattern, placing one card face up followed by cards face down on the rest, creating a cascading effect.
By following these steps, your last column should have seven cards. You should also have 24 cards in your hand to use during the game.
2. The Objective
- Try to build four sequences from Ace to King, each in its own suit.
- When you uncover an Ace, place it aside and start building the sequence with cards of the same suit in order.
3. Building on the Table
- Create sequences by placing cards in descending order and alternating colors.
- For example, under a six of clubs, you can place a five of diamonds or hearts, but not clubs or spades.
4. Uncovering Cards
- Once you've used a face-up card, reveal the card beneath it.
- When all cards in a column are used, open a new base with a King.
5. Shifting Sequences
- Move sequences between columns, maintaining the alternating color and descending order.
6. Using the Hand Cards
- Flip over the top three cards from your pile. Only use the top card.
- After using it, you can access the next card beneath it.
- Once all cards are used, reshuffle and start again.
Klondike offers a refreshing twist on solitaire, making it a fun and strategic game for card enthusiasts. Enjoy the challenge and history it brings to your leisure time!
