The Barrows is a thrilling, challenging minigame in RuneScape, where great wealth awaits?"but so does significant risk. Even seasoned adventurers can lose millions in items if they aren’t careful or succumb to bad luck.
My Barrows Journey
I’ve been Barrowing frequently to boost my magic and range levels, aiming for 99 (currently at 96 range, 97 mage, and 91 combat). It’s excellent mage training, as the loot often provides the runes needed to cast Magic Dart of Slayer (requiring level 55 Slayer). Over 100 runs have netted me more than 3,000 bolt racks, numerous blood runes, and around 8,000 chaos runes. I’m consistently well-stocked on necessary runes.
Notable Loot
Some of my most prized finds include:
- Torag’s Platebody
- Two Guthan’s Helms (sold for 3.35 million gp each)
- Verac’s Helm, Brassard, and Plateskirt
- Karil’s Skirt
I’ve also collected at least four half keys.
My Strategy
Most players activate Protection prayers against melee attacks, consuming plenty of prayer potions to tackle the crypt's brothers. Upon entering a crypt, your prayer drains by about 10 points every 10 seconds. However, my method is riskier, saving on prayer potions by not using melee prayers.
I primarily use magic and range, relying on runes for entangle (requiring 79 magic) and magic dart (requiring 55 slayer). My technique involves entangling the melee brothers immediately, retreating a few squares, and attacking with magic dart. The entangle holds them for 15 seconds, allowing time for four darts. Before it breaks, I hide and repeat the process. This avoids their damaging hits, which are far from friendly!
Advanced Techniques
A technique I use involves strategic movement around the tomb corners, similar to “side-stepping.” High-level players use this to eat and regroup mid-battle. By positioning myself at a corner, I can create a temporary barrier between the brother and myself.
Many ask why I forgo Melee Prayer. Initially, I aimed to save on prayer potions, using Ancient Magicks instead. With a high magic level, Ice Barrage is effective, but costly. After trial and error, I opted for Modern Magic for both its entertainment value and profit potential. The risk adds excitement, and I’ve been fortunate?"yesterday I snagged Verac’s Plateskirt. Now I just need the Flail to complete the set.
Unexpected Treasures
One memorable day, while preparing to face Dharok?"dangerous without melee prayer due to his potential 58 damage hit?"I witnessed another player’s swift defeat. His dropped items included an Obsidian Shield, Black Mystic outfit, rune arrows, Berserker helm, and more. Though my inventory was full, I managed to claim some riches before others swooped in.
Conclusion
With an unexpectedly acquired Obsidian Shield and Verac’s Plateskirt, I decided to bank my haul and take a break. No need to press my luck further. Dharok, however, still awaits my return at the Barrows.
