As my direct sales business has expanded over the past couple of years, there have been times when my life has felt completely out of balance. It’s during these moments that I need to step back, reflect, and gain perspective on both life and my home business.
Not long ago, my daughters and I were out running errands?"a typical trip to the mega-store for bulk items, delivering an order to a friend, and heading back home. Living in a small town means we always drive through a beautiful area filled with horse farms and grand estates whenever we venture out.
There’s one magnificent horse farm along our usual route. With its rolling hills, vibrant green grass, and elegant white fences, it’s truly a sight to behold. Each spring, the mares and their foals graze near the road, and we can’t help but slow down to admire them. It’s a breathtaking scene?"watching a colt run alongside its mother.
What does this have to do with direct sales? Perhaps not much, except to remind us that there’s more to life than business. Sometimes you need to pause and watch the horses. While driving along that country road, my mind is often consumed with business tasks?"where I need to be, what I need to get, who I need to contact. I’m so focused that I might not even hear my kids asking me questions. But when we reach the farm and my kids excitedly say, "Look, there’s a baby running," everything else fades away for a moment, reminding me of life’s simple pleasures.
I am passionate about direct sales because I believe in what it can offer both women and men in the field. However, I often hear about people who spend so much time working that they forget to take a moment to relax and reflect on life beyond business.
It’s all about balance. Find your own "horse farm" moments?"those moments of quiet reflection?"and enjoy them. But always keep a part of your attention on the road ahead, just to be safe!
