Please Don’t Buy Anything From Me
Introduction
This week has been quite eventful. My company serves thousands of customers globally, so my team and I are accustomed to handling customer support issues. We strive to ensure every customer gets exactly what they paid for.
Most of the time, 99.999% to be exact, our customers are thrilled. But then, there's that elusive 0.001%.
Unbelievable Customer Reactions
This week, I encountered a customer who threatened to hunt me down. Another wished to strangle me, and yet another hoped I would "burn in Hell for all eternity." What led to these extreme reactions? Simply an email that didn’t arrive promptly.
The Root of the Problem
These seemingly nice individuals didn’t receive a confirmation email from my website as quickly as they expected. Instead of considering potential external factors, they concluded I was a scammer.
Was the delay my fault? Not at all. Our system is fully automated and typically seamless. The real issue likely lay with their email filters or their ISP's filters, as these emails were often found in their spam folders.
A Logical Approach
Rather than utilizing the customer service email provided in their receipt for assistance, these individuals chose more drastic measures. They even overlooked the detailed explanation on our sales receipt and "thank you" page about email filtering issues.
Instead, they tracked down my personal email and sent me death threats. Nothing quite compares to receiving hostile emails from customers, some of whom have the word "God" in their email address, simply because they didn’t get a confirmation email.
Understanding the Process
When you purchase a product from my site, here's what happens:
1. You add the product to your shopping cart.
2. You proceed to payment via credit card or PayPal.
3. After completing the process, you click "CONTINUE" to return to our site and access the download page.
4. Our system instantly updates with your purchase and sends the order information to your email.
The process is automated and efficient?"on our end.
The Email Dilemma
The trouble arises when our system tries to deliver the email, but only about 25% of emails get past ISP spam filters. This is especially true for free email providers like Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, and MSN, as well as ISPs like AOL, Comcast, Cox, Earthlink, and Juno, which heavily filter emails.
Of that 25%, user filters eliminate another 75%. So occasionally, our emails end up in junk or spam folders instead of inboxes.
The Human Factor
Most customers handle these snafus with patience and request their information be resent, a request we gladly fulfill. Unfortunately, some jump to conclusions, thinking they've been scammed.
Conclusion
Next time you purchase from me or another reputable vendor online and your email doesn’t arrive as fast as you’d like, consider this: check your spam folder before resorting to drastic measures. If it’s not there, simply request it be resent.
Email isn’t perfect. Please remember this before making threats against those who have done no wrong.
