The grounds themselves were neglected. The so-called "wharf" offered little chance for relaxation, with the cold, fast-moving river making swimming unsafe. Management, often surrounded by smoke from what seemed to be marijuana, camped in a tent on-site. Their dog, a Rottweiler-Pitbull mix, was aggressive and unsupervised, attacking our dog and others multiple times.
Interaction with the Owner
Meeting Cathy, the owner, was another unsettling experience. Her erratic and self-absorbed behavior seemed to mirror the neglected state of the accommodations. Conversations with her were lengthy and uncomfortable, often veering into monologues about her self-perceived expertise.
Conclusion
It's clear that this establishment does not meet the standards one might expect. Despite its pet-friendly label, the facilities and management make it a place to avoid. Fortunately, we discovered other nearby bed and breakfasts that offer a more welcoming environment for pets and their owners.
If Lake Cowichan is on your travel itinerary, steer clear of these riverfront accommodations. Your time and money are better spent elsewhere.
