4 Essential Tips for Lighting a Cigar
Lighting a cigar for the first time can feel as tricky as selecting a quality one. Here are four tips to help you light a cigar with confidence.
1. Choose the Right Tool
Use cedar matches if possible. If a lighter is your preference, opt for a butane lighter to prevent any unwanted odors from affecting your cigar.
2. Warm Up the Cigar
Gently warm "the foot" (the open end) of the cigar by holding it above the flame without touching it. Let a black ring form around the edge.
3. Light with Care
Place the cigar in your mouth and draw slowly. Hold it about half an inch above the flame without touching it, and continue drawing until it catches fire. Rotate the cigar slowly to ensure an even burn.
4. Check for an Even Burn
Once lit, remove the cigar from your mouth to examine the burn. If it's uneven, gently blow on the unlit sections and take a few slow draws to create a uniform burn.
