Travelers Enjoy Enhanced Comforts on the Road
As U.S. companies are set to spend an estimated $179 billion on business travel this year, countless business travelers are yearning for the comforts of home while away.
Trendwatching.com, an independent trend agency based in Amsterdam, highlights a growing global trend: the demand for more comfortable and well-equipped hotels. According to Reinier Evers, founder of Trendwatching.com, people invest heavily in their homes with features like home theaters and gyms. When they're on the road, they expect an even higher level of luxury from their hotels.
Evers notes a second trend. As hotels enhance their amenities to satisfy these demands, travelers often wish to recreate the luxurious experience at home. Many hotels have tapped into this by offering guests the chance to purchase items they've enjoyed during their stay.
Today, guests can buy just about anything they encounter in hotel rooms, from beds and towels to showerheads and toiletries. Upscale hotels were early adopters of this trend, some even providing catalogs. Recently, mid-range hotels have carved out their own space. For instance, Holiday Inn Express, the fastest-growing hotel chain in its segment, is investing $20 million in upgrading the bathrooms in over 1,300 properties across the U.S. and Canada.
The centerpiece of this upgrade, known as the SimplySmart guest bath experience, features a Stay Smart showerhead by Kohler. This showerhead was tested by more than 7,000 guests at 28 hotels nationwide before its widespread implementation in late 2004.
