Preserving Quilting as a Cherished Family Tradition

A visit to the fabric store set us on the path to discovering the art of patchwork quilting.
Discovering Patchwork Quilting
At the fabric store, a helpful sales clerk guided us toward patchwork quilts, highlighting them as a beginner-friendly and economical choice. A patchwork quilt is crafted from different fabrics cut into pieces and sewn together to form the quilt top. To complete the quilt, a coordinating solid or patterned fabric serves as the back, and batting is placed between the two layers. The quilting process involves either hand sewing with thread or tying knots through all layers, known as "tying a quilt."
Creative Choices in Quilting
Patchwork quilts are unique because quilters have the flexibility to choose the size, shape, and arrangement of fabric pieces. The sales clerk recommended starting with uniformly sized squares and alternating fabrics to create a pleasing color sequence.
