Hello, I'm Jeffrey Michael Miller. My debut poetry collection, "From The Inside Out," has been published by PublishAmerica and is doing well. Although it's my first book, I've been writing poetry for quite some time, and I'm deeply committed to the art and its impact on people.
The Perception of Poetry
In my view, poetry is often misunderstood. Critics, reviewers, and even booksellers frequently claim that poetry books are difficult to sell or that there's little public interest in poetry. However, I strongly disagree with these notions.
Poetry is a timeless and expressive art form. We celebrate poets like Wordsworth and Dickinson for their contributions to literature. Modern poets too are working hard to revive the intense emotions and messages that resonated in the past, striving to connect with readers from diverse backgrounds.
The Relevance of Poetry Today
It's a mistake to limit poets by claiming their art is not a viable selling point. If poetry were truly obsolete, we wouldn't see the vast number of poetry forums and websites flourishing online. One site alone hosts over five million poets. Clearly, interest in poetry is growing, and this fact should not be ignored.
The Role of Critics
There's also an issue with critics who judge others' work and attempt to influence how individuals express themselves through poetry. I believe each person's expression is unique, and I'm not a fan of critics dictating terms. As Teddy Roosevelt said in "The Battle of Life," it's not the critic who counts, and I fully agree.
Embracing Individualism
In every aspect of life, including poetry, individualism and uniqueness breed genius. I crave original, fresh material?"not copies of existing artists. I have no right to judge because true expression is personal and should remain untouchable.
Preserve Your Vision
Ultimately, neither my opinion nor a critic’s should determine the value of your work. Your feelings and expressions are yours alone and should remain untouched. Imagine if Shakespeare had altered his work to suit popular opinion?"we wouldn’t have the Shakespeare we admire today.
Let your vision and work develop independently, shaped solely by your wishes, and not by anyone else’s. That way, your art remains authentically yours.
