After picking up Elebits for the Nintendo Wii, I found myself diving into its whimsical world. While I usually involve my whole family in game reviews, this quirky title captivated me so much that I decided to write this review solo.
Gameplay
Elebits sets itself apart with its innovative gameplay, requiring both the Wii-mote and the nunchuck. The Wii-mote acts as your zapper gun, while the nunchuck handles movement. Players navigate in all directions and can stretch or crouch using the Z button on the nunchuck. Your goal is to catch the elusive Elebits by pointing and clicking your zapper, all while moving objects in a highly interactive environment.
The game takes place in fully movable house rooms, allowing you to stack furniture in creative ways. The objective is to capture as many Elebits as possible without causing too much chaos. These creatures represent watts of power, and the more you collect, the more appliances you can activate, revealing even more Elebits.
Keep in mind, the game’s first-person perspective can lead to some eye strain or even motion sickness, so take breaks if needed.
Graphics and Sound
The graphics in Elebits are some of the best I've seen on the Wii, with a charming cartoon style that fits perfectly with the game's quirky theme.
The sound is unobtrusive and complements the gameplay without being memorable or annoying. Notably, there is voiceover work for the storyline, unlike some other titles like Zelda, which rely solely on text.
Fun Factor
The fun factor in Elebits is exceptional. I found myself returning to it repeatedly, even dreaming about those little creatures after a late-night session. Elebits is truly innovative, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see sequels in the future. It's a refreshing experience that showcases what the Wii has to offer. As my fifth Wii title purchase, it has quickly become my favorite.
Though I’ve only reached the 7th or 8th level so far, I can't precisely gauge the difficulty. However, I faced the first boss four times before progressing. It’s both challenging and rewarding.
