Summary
Crowded House, one of New Zealand's most celebrated musical exports, emerged after the disbandment of new wave pioneers Split Enz in the mid-1980s. Neil Finn, singer and guitarist (brother of Split Enz's Tim Finn), teamed up with drummer Paul Hester, bassist Nick Seymour, and guitarist Craig Hooper to form The Mullanes in 1985.The following year, with a new name, the departure of Hooper, a deal with Capitol Records, and a move to Los Angeles, Crowded House was ready for their debut. Their self-titled album produced hits like "World Where You Live," "Something So Strong," and the iconic "Don't Dream It's Over."
Despite initial setbacks in promotion, the band's tenacity paid off with small venue tours and media appearances, eventually cracking the US Top 40 with "Don't Dream It's Over" in 1987.
Their second album, "Temple of Low Men," released a year later, explored deeper themes with singles like "Into Temptation" and "Better Be Home Soon." However, it didn't replicate their debut's commercial success, and challenges followed, including lineup changes and Neil Finn officially disbanding Crowded House in 1996.
In 2005, tragedy struck with the untimely death of Paul Hester, aged 46, marking a somber moment in the band's history.
Reuniting in 2007, Crowded House released "Time On Earth" and embarked on a tour, receiving rave reviews at major events like Coachella and Live Earth. Their UK tour in November and December, featuring dates at iconic venues like Wembley Arena and the Royal Albert Hall, promises a nostalgic experience of ‘80s pop at its best.
