Have you ever imagined being present at the crucifixion of Jesus? Inspired by a beloved hymn, picture yourself on that hill 2,000 years ago, witnessing the nailing of Jesus to the cross. Near death, with a crown of thorns pressed deep into His scalp, His back bears the marks of brutal flogging. Exhausted, He has carried the weight of the cross outside the city gates of Jerusalem.
Crucified with three nails?"through each hand and both feet?"Jesus claimed to be the Son of God. Just a week prior, crowds hailed Him as He entered Jerusalem, riding a donkey, palm branches waving, voices shouting, "Hosanna! Blessed is the King of Israel who comes in the name of the Lord!" They had seen or experienced the miracles He performed, recognizing Him as no ordinary man, although unaware of the prophecies He was fulfilling. (John 12)
Now on the cross, He is despised and rejected, a man of sorrows familiar with grief. We turned our faces from Him; He was not esteemed. (Isa. 53:3) This scene is far from beautiful. It’s the image of one man bearing every sin and ailment that ever existed. He took our infirmities and carried our sorrows; He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities. The punishment for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes, we are healed. (Isa. 53:4-5, Mat. 8:17) This prophecy, written centuries before, speaks in present tense, declaring healing as an accomplished fact.
To ensure His death, His side was pierced, fulfilling the prophecy: "They shall look on Him whom they pierced." (John 19) Many other scriptures were fulfilled that day, including the powerful act of forgiveness when He said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34) At the moment of His death, the temple veil tore from top to bottom, symbolizing direct access to God?"no mediator needed. (Mat. 27:51-53)

He disarmed principalities and powers, triumphing over them publicly, all for you. Live a victorious life now and in eternity with Him. He accomplished it all, concluding with His final words: "It is Finished." (John 19:30)
