How I Spent My Vacation in Amsterdam
This year, I decided to visit a friend living just outside Amsterdam and explore the city. Here’s a glimpse of my Amsterdam adventure.
During my vacation, I experienced many of the wonders Amsterdam has to offer. First on my list was the Van Gogh Museum. Despite being tired from my flight, I was eager to see some of his incredible art firsthand.
After the museum, I headed to the city center for some shopping and a bite to eat. I’d heard a lot about Amsterdam’s unique culture and found that much of it was true. The strong scent of marijuana was unmistakable, and I was struck by the sight of nearly nude women in windows.
Beyond the lively and audacious atmosphere, I noticed something familiar: casinos. Growing up near Atlantic City, I had spent considerable time in casinos after my 18th birthday, so I was curious to check Amsterdam’s offerings.
I spent a significant portion of my time in these casinos. The first one had only video gaming machines, including video poker, blackjack, and slot machines. I didn’t fare well there, spending about an hour and losing 100 Euro.
The next casino was more upscale. Unlike in New Jersey, patrons were dressed smartly in nice clothes instead of casual attire. Here, I sat at a blackjack table but encountered a player who seemed clueless?"or perhaps involved in some shady play. I moved to the roulette table and initially had a lucky streak, winning up to 400 Euro before my luck turned.
The following day, I tried my hand at another casino. Starting with a slot machine, I quickly won 200 Euro. Feeling lucky, I ventured into the poker room, where I faced skilled players. It was a challenging but enjoyable experience, and I might have left with a small profit after a five-hour game.
After my casino escapade, I needed a break and went looking for a coffee. Unfamiliar with the local customs, I stumbled into a “coffee shop,” where marijuana is sold and smoked openly. Surprised but curious, I ended up buying a joint of White Widow, which turned out to be much stronger than I anticipated.
After smoking half the joint, I found myself overwhelmed by its potency. Even with years of drinking experience, I had never felt so out of my depth. I eventually managed to get some fresh air and grabbed a waffle before deciding to try my luck at the casino again.
Unfortunately, this time my luck ran out, and I lost another 600 Euro, even falling off my chair and needing assistance to leave the casino.
