Emerging Band Series: Blue October
Discovering Blue October
Blue October is a dynamic rock band hailing from Houston, Texas, formed in 1996 by the talented Justin Furstenfeld, who serves as the lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Rounding out the band are Justin's brother Jeremy on drums, Ryan Delahoussaye playing multiple instruments, guitarist CB Hudson, and bassist Matt Noveskey.
Early Beginnings
The band debuted with their album The Answers in 1998, managed by Justin and Jeremy's parents, and quickly gained a strong following in Houston. Despite signing with Universal Records in 2000, their first album under the label, Consent to Treatment, didn’t meet expectations, leading to their release from the label.
Rising Success
Their fortunes changed with their third album, History for Sale, which gained unexpected success and was re-released by Universal. A standout single, "Calling You," was included in the soundtrack for American Wedding, the third film in the popular American Pie series.
Breakthrough Hits
In 2006, Blue October achieved mainstream success with the hit single "Hate Me" from their album Foiled. The album’s popularity landed them on renowned late night TV shows like The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Late Show with David Letterman.
