How a Head Cold Led to Happily Ever After
Reflecting on My Journey
Looking back on my life as a carefree single, I can't help but reminisce about the times I found myself in a man's embrace, thoroughly enjoying each moment.
Sometimes, I feel like I'm caught in a cozy trap?"though I should be careful since my second husband is right behind me and might question my seating choices.
I adored my first husband, a wonderfully humorous man of Jewish heritage, whose parents escaped the horrors of the Holocaust as children. After numerous tumultuous relationships, he was the only man I truly loved (Remigio, stop looking over my shoulder!).
A New Chapter Begins
Years and some sanity-testing relationships later, I found myself in a Certified Nurse Aide class, seated in front of my future husband with a coffee pot nearby.
My first husband saw our marriage as serendipitous; he was ill, and I fell for his unwavering courage. When he passed, I had a brief, heart-wrenching affair that could fill the pages of a gripping novel.
But it was Remigio who disrupted my newfound single life with a well-placed kick to the back of my chair! I turned away from my conversation with Grace, a lovely woman who struggled with her own challenges, including weight.
Finding Love in Unexpected Places
I often made Grace coffee, adding creamer and a sugar packet upon her request. Our friendship was disrupted by Remigio's bold move.
Turning around, I faced his intense gaze, reminiscent of a teacher I admired in the 70s at Ohio University. I mustered a friendly, "So, how’re you doing?" as my mom always advised being kind to handsome strangers. Remigio's smile lit up the room, and that was the beginning of our story.
A Happy Ending
Three years later, just before Christmas, we welcomed our beautiful daughter, Angela, inheriting her father's warm complexion and my cheeky grin.
To all the single ladies out there: try sniffling at people to see who notices. Offering a cup of coffee can work wonders, soothing others' tired spirits.
And don’t forget the cream and sugar!
