Overview

In an attempt to mimic Disney’s Broadway success with productions like The Lion King, Warner Brothers set out on a similar path. However, instead of choosing a fresh and compelling concept, they opted for a reimagining of the well-worn Dracula legend, inspired by a contemporary author’s unique interpretation.
Following Disney’s recipe for success, Warner enlisted the songwriting talents of Elton John and Bernie Taupin, the duo behind The Lion King. Yet, from the get-go, things didn’t bode well. Early buzz was abysmal, and the critics' reviews were even harsher.
This leads to an important question: with countless stories to choose from or even the potential to create something entirely new, why settle for the tired tale of Dracula?
As it goes with trying to animate a lifeless idea, you can attempt to breathe life into it, but ultimately it will falter and fall.
